The formerly considered vitamins alpha lipoic acid/acetyl l carnitine combination for anti aging purposes and provided as daily health supplements has been showing much promise in turning back the clock and significantly delaying aging. Their anti aging supplements mechanism is not only beneficial to athletes or people whose jobs demand optimum physical performance, but is also important to ordinary folks who also deserve to live longer, higher quality lives.
The potent anti aging effects of alpha lipoic acid/acetyl l carnitine have been demonstrated not only in animal studies, but also in studies involving humans. In 2001 at the San Francisco University, for instance, a double-blind placebo-controlled 17-week study was performed involving 18 healthy sedentary men aged 60-71 years old. The subjects were randomized to either of two set treatment regimes: a placebo tablet twice a day, or 1000 mg of acetyl l carnitine and 400 mg of alpha lipoic acid. Both groups were then made to engage in physically demanding exercises. After the exercise, their blood was drawn and analyzed to measure exercise-induced oxidative stress. For the purpose of this measurement, the study evaluated nine important biomarkers, namely ammonia, beta-carotene, glutamine, glutathione, malondialdehyde, total antioxidant status (TAS), vitamin C, vitamin E-alpha tocopherol, and vitamin E-gamma tocopherol. It was discovered that for eight of these nine biomarkers, a majority of subjects in the treatment group recorded values indicating that levels of oxidative stress had fallen. By contrast, no such benefits were reported in the placebo group.
One caveat, though: such studies on humans are very limited, so caution is needed in interpreting their results. But so far, limited as such studies may be, their results point to a very promising future: that of alpha lipoic acid/acetyl l carnitine supplements can effectively stop factors that contribute to aging and its degenerative disorders.

Acetyl carnitine and vitamins alpha lipoic acid may be extremely powerful anti-aging supplements. In an 18-month landmark study, old rats fed with acetyl-L carnitine and alpha lipoic acid regained their youthful vigor and became full of energy.
Acetyl L carnitine supplements and alpha lipoic acid were fed to elderly rats for seven weeks, after which their physical conditions were compared with those of young rats.
Acetyl-L carnitine has already been shown to enhance the oxidation of fatty acids and boost metabolism, but the side-effect of this greater activity was increased oxidative damage. Researchers decided to add alpha lipoic acid (ALA) with acetyl-L carnitine to provide protection from such oxidative damage. The result was a powerful two-pronged anti-aging effect: acetyl carnitine increased metabolism, while alpha lipoic acid maintained oxidative damage from such a metabolic increase to a minimum. After one month, the old and lethargic rats fed with the acetyl-L carnitine and alpha lipoic acid supplements were more energetic and performed better in memory tests. The improvement was as if the old rats were turned into young ones. The comparison with humans is like turning 80-year-old humans into 35-year-olds.

Acetyl-L-carnitine, or also known as ALCAR, is a form of L-carnitine that is acetylated. Although it occurs naturally in plants and animals, now L carnitine supplements are popularly consumed as a health or dietary supplement. The health benefits of Acetyl carnitine are various, including functioning as a powerful antioxidant, memory enhancer, and protection against general aging and vascular diseases. Acetyl carnitine vitamins has also been shown to effectively fight aging and most of aging’s associated health conditions.
Acetyl carnitine is said to be a very powerful antioxidant, even more powerful than L carnitine. Because Acetyl-L carnitine can easily cross the blood-brain barrier and thus enter the brain blood circulation, it is very effective in protecting brain cells from deterioration. It has been demonstrated that a regular dietary supplement of Acetyl carnitine can protect the brain from cerebral ischemia (in studies with rats) and may possibly aid in the recovery of injured peripheral nerve. As one of the most important neutron transmitters, Acetyl-L carnitine is vital in enabling a person to memorize or learn anything. Moreover, another added benefit of Acetyl-L carnitine is its positive effect on human fertility. Acetyl-L carnitine helps the sperm move more vigorously (motility), and therefore, Acetyl-L carnitine greatly improves fertility.
Another health benefit of Acetyl carnitine is its positive effect on muscle diseases, including heart diseases. Acetyl carnitine, as one of the essential amino acid supplements in the human body, works with other dietary supplements to help the human body in resist aging. Acetyl carnitine’s powerful antioxidant effect is very effective in fighting aging and other health conditions associated with aging.
